Le cose buone hanno bisogno di tempo
I talk often in these posts about craftsmanship and the role of the artisan - the master of a time-honored craft - because it is the spirit behind what I do at Luretík. My appreciation for Italy’s long history of artisanal work goes back decades, but it was only when I began producing artisanal olive oil that I truly understood what it means to be fully dedicated to a craft that has been centuries in the making. And perhaps more importantly, how much the world is at risk of losing generations of knowledge without a broad effort to support artisans whose signature works are exceedingly more difficult to find in our age of trend driven consumption.
Whether in Italy or here in the US, purchasing artisanal products that only skilled hands can produce encourages not only creativity but also a human connection that is absent in mass market production. One of the most rewarding aspects of my work (and one that I never really expected) is the enjoyment I’ve experienced in connecting personally with so many who have purchased our oils or visited the grove at Luretík. Hopefully, I have earned their trust in my promise to deliver quality, transparency and accountability in every aspect of my work.
At Luretík, we believe that what we bring into our homes should reflect our values. Craftsmanship is a kind of quiet beauty, one that doesn’t call attention to itself but enhances everything around it. Purchasing from artisans - whether a local olive oil maker, ceramist, weaver, or jeweler is a recognition of this and more. It honors the time, dedication, skill, and passion that go into making something unique. Something that bears the stamp of both the individual and a time-honored craft.
Le cose buone hanno bisogno di tempo - good things require time. And in a world that moves too quickly, choosing to slow down – whether in the kitchen, at the table, or shopping with intention for the holidays – is a form of resistance. It is a commitment to savoring, to spending time with the people we love, and to surrounding ourselves with things that are made thoughtfully and that are worth saving.
For those of you who’ve taken precious time out of busy days to read these posts and support our small business, we thank you and wish you a wonderful, serene holiday season.
